Invisalign

By no fault of our own, many of us are not as confident about our smile as we could be. The traditional treatment for crooked teeth has long been metal braces, but for obvious reasons, many dental patients dislike the appearance of metal braces on their teeth and are looking for a less conspicuous solution. Here at New Dimensions Dentistry, our dental team has that solution – Invisalign.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign has revolutionized dental reconstruction, providing patients with the opportunity to correct their smile without the need for visible metal braces. Invisalign is a form of clear aligner that is custom-made using computer modeling to fit perfectly over the teeth, gradually moving them to give you the smile you’ve always dreamed of.

How does Invisalign work?

With gentle pressure, teeth can be moved into line, altering the way they sit within the mouth. Traditional braces do this by using wires, whereas Invisalign clear aligners sit over the top of the teeth, fitting closely and inconspicuously in the mouth to gradually move the teeth into their desired location. Our dental team will change your Invisalign clear aligners every two weeks or so to ensure that the correct pressure is applied to the teeth, making gradual improvements to your smile until eventually, your teeth have reached their final position.

Is Invisalign effective?

The short answer to this question is yes! Invisalign is being used by dentists all over the world to improve patient’s smiles and the results speak for themselves. Invisalign aligners work for a very wide range of dental patients including those with crowded teeth, gaps in their teeth, and for those whose teeth have shifted with age or who have worn braces when younger. To find out how Invisalign would work for you, contact our dental office in Midtown East NYC. Of course, the effectiveness of your Invisalign treatment will be affected by your own oral care, including attending your checkups and ensuring you wear your aligners for the allocated amount of time.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

You may now be wondering why Invisalign is proving to be so popular and the answer lies in its unique set of benefits including:

  • Invisalign aligners are clear – Perhaps the most obvious benefit of Invisalign over conventional metal braces is that they are clear and therefore virtually invisible. For patients who are already self-conscious of their smile or who dislike the look of braces, this makes Invisalign a great alternative. There’s no need to worry about your smile’s appearance because most people won’t even notice that the Invisalign aligners are there.
  • Invisalign aligners can speed up treatment – Another major benefit of Invisalign treatment over conventional metal braces is that the treatment is often completed in a much shorter amount of time, with some patients finishing their Invisalign treatment in just six months.
  • Invisalign aligners are removable – One of the main downsides to wearing metal braces are the dietary limitations that you need to follow. With Invisalign aligners, however, you can eat what you want, because the aligners can be removed when needed. Their versatility also makes it easier to continue brushing and flossing in your normal routine and if you have a photoshoot or big event coming up, then you can remove them for those too!
  • Invisalign aligners are considered more comfortable – Metal braces can be clunky and their wires can be irritating at best. Invisalign clear aligners are molded to the exact shape of the patient’s mouth, ensuring a snug and comfortable fit, with no irritating wires in sight.

What to expect if you choose Invisalign

The Invisalign process is very simple and all starts with you making an appointment to see Dr. Doris Giraldo here at New Dimension Dentistry. During your initial consultation, Dr. Giraldo will be able to ensure that you are a good candidate for Invisalign and will then be able to create your treatment plan.

Molds and impressions will be captured of your teeth in order to create your aligners, and photographs and x-rays will be taken to help gauge progress. Then, using advanced 3D technology, Dr. Giraldo will be able to show you a virtual model of your future stunning smile.

Once your aligners are ready, our dental team will work with you to ensure that they are fitted correctly and a few special invisible fasteners will be bonded temporarily to your teeth over which your aligners will sit. Simply wear your aligners day and night or as much as possible, and be sure to switch in your new aligners every 2 weeks. To make sure that everything is on track, your dentist will schedule regular 6-week appointments with you and can make any minor adjustments as necessary.

Finally, once your treatment is complete, Dr. Girlado, will give you a retainer to wear to ensure that your teeth hold their desired position.
