Restorative Dentistry

One area of dental care we provide at New Dimensions Dentistry is restorative dentistry. Dr. Doris Giraldo and the team are always on hand to deal with your restorative dentistry needs. Whether you’re looking to have a new set of dentures fitted or you require a bone graft procedure, we are one of the best places for restorative dentistry in Midtown East NYC.

What is restorative dentistry?

Restorative dentistry is basically a dental term referring to the replacement of damaged or missing teeth. Things like fillings, bridges, and crowns are all included under the umbrella of restorative dentistry.

The main goal of restorative dentistry is to make your smile look great again, while also improving your oral health and helping to prevent any future dental health issues.

Why should you consider restorative dentistry procedures?

We advise our patients to undergo restorative dentistry procedures for a number of very important reasons, including:

  • Keeping teeth properly aligned. If you have a missing tooth, the other teeth in your mouth can begin to shift and move into that space. This causes your teeth to come out of alignment, which can not only be uncomfortable and unsightly, but it can also make it more difficult for you to maintain the standard of oral hygiene that you would like. Restorative dentistry can make that right by filling in any spaces left by lost teeth.
  • Better oral hygiene. Replacing teeth that have been lost for whatever reason can help to prevent the buildup of plaque by making it easier for you to maintain a high-quality oral hygiene routine. Since plaque build-up can cause a range of issues including tooth decay and gum disease, this is a really important factor to consider.
  • Improved self-esteem. Missing teeth can ravage your smile and make you feel self-conscious about your looks. Having restorative dentistry can restore your smile to how it was before and help you to feel better about yourself.

What are your options for restorative dentistry?

We offer a wide range of restorative dentistry options to suit the needs of our patients including:

Tooth-colored fillings

Sometimes included under cosmetic dentistry, many dental professionals consider fillings to be a part of restorative dentistry given that you are restoring a damaged tooth back to health. Here at New Dimension Dentistry, we offer tooth-colored fillings that will blend in completely and leave your smile looking as good as new.

Bone grafting

Dr. Giraldo and the team are very experienced when it comes to bone graft procedures. Should you require a bone graft, we will remove a section of bone from another part of your body and graft it onto your jaw bone using a bone grafting material designed exactly for this purpose. Your bone graft will provide a solid base for dental implants, which will vastly improve your smile and your oral health.

Dental bridges

Dental bridges are designed to fill in the gap created by a missing tooth or missing teeth. Typically, dental bridges are made from at least two crowns which will be fitted on each side of the gap. Your dental bridge will be supported either by your existing natural teeth or dental implants depending on your needs and your current dental health.

Dental crowns

Dental crowns are created to totally cap teeth or dental implants. Patients tend to need them when they have a large cavity which is threatening the health of their tooth. They are very good at improving tooth strength, and of course, they do an excellent job of improving the appearance of your smile.

Crown lengthening

A crown lengthening procedure requires your excess gum and bone tissue to be reshaped so that more of your natural tooth is visible. You can have this procedure done on a single tooth or several, and it is typically chosen by patients who want to even out their gum line and improve their natural smile.

Dentures are used to replace missing teeth. Unlike many of the other restorative dentistry options we have discussed so far, they are nor permanent in that they can be taken out and put back in at will. Dentures are an affordable solution for improving your smile after tooth loss, but they can take some time to get used to.

Full mouth reconstruction

A full mouth reconstruction is a restorative dentistry procedure whereby each and every one of the patient’s teeth is rebuilt or replaced. Having such a procedure can improve the appearance and health of the patient’s mouth when there have been serious medical or cosmetic issues previously.

Dental implants

Dental implants are metal frames or posts that are implanted into the jawbone under the gums. Once they have been implanted, replacement teeth can be fixed to them creating a brand new smile.

Inlays and onlays

Dental inlays and onlays are typically used when we have a patient with old fillings that must be replaced or removed. An inlay is a bit like a filling, and it sits inside the top edge of the tooth. An onlay is similar to an inlay, except it comes over the edge of the tooth, providing much more extensive coverage.

Root Canals

Root canal treatments are used to repair and/or save a tooth that has undergone significant damage or which is seriously infected. The damaged portion of the tooth is removed before the remaining portion is cleaned and disinfected. The remaining tooth is then filled and sealed so that it looks almost as good as new.

Soft tissue grafting

Soft tissue grafting is used to treat gum recession. A graft will typically be put in place to cover an exposed root or thicken gum tissue so that further tissue loss is prevented.
